Samurai Princess

Samurai Princess takes place sometime, somewhere, in an alternate universe version of feudal Japan where people live together with highly developed mechanical dolls. However, excessively developed mechanical dolls start causing harm to the human society, leading to ghastly blood shed happening all over the place. Under the circumstances, Kyoraku, a mad scientist, creates a female ninja mechanical doll. Equipped with 11 types of built-in weapons, the ninja doll is infused with the souls of eleven of her fallen sisters and she uses their combined power to take down anyone who stands in the way. The ninja doll will not die even if she is slashed by a sword or shot by a gun; she is virtually indestructible on her quest to save humanity. (desc taken from youtube)

This may be the worst movie I’ve shown to date!  Asian gore exploitation & a porn star lead actress?  But how can I not??  Recommended for fans of the Troma films, so you know to expect lots of cheesy, low budget gore & violence, & some “mild sexuality”.  **Does contain a rape scene, so this could be a trigger for some people.**

Events Schedule Nov 1-7

1 Nov

Today is the last day of our mini hunt.  I want to thank everyone who came out to be a part of our first trick-or-treat:~)  I hope you had fun & a found something you enjoy.

It’s NaNoWriMo time & just a month until World AIDS Day & our 16 Days program, so this will be a busy, busy day for me.  I’ve opened the taco up for NaNoers looking for a quite place, & held a kick-off write-in last night.  I’m considering scheduling some regular write-ins, but haven’t decided yet if I really have the time for it (I am also leading real world write-ins).  I’ll also be getting my planning in gear for our 16 Days program on Dec 1.  If anyone would like to participate in the event or it’s planning, drop me a line either here or inworld.

Well, on to this week’s schedule…

Tues, Nov 2 @ 8PM: Video Night!
This week we’ll be enjoying an assortment of videos from Flight of the Conchords.  Prepare to be amused!

Thurs, Nov 4 @ 7:15PM: Movie Night!

The week of Halloween, we’ll be  showing a different movie from the horror genre every night (well, at least through the week.  I’m still nailing down my Halloween plans & as much as I luv you guys I will not be passing up a night of drink & debauchery to watch YouTube in SL:~p).  If you’ve had the pleasure of seeing some of the movies I’ve shown so far, you know some of them will probably lean closer to being a comedy, or tragedy, than actual horror.  But as long as there’s at least a ghost or demon or axe murderer running lose, & somebody gets killed it counts.  I’m also working on a fun little trick or treat hunt around here.  But more info about all that next week:~)

See you there!

We’ve got some specialness planned this week:~)

On Tuesday we’ll be showing two hours of contemporary poets & on Thursday it’ll be Logan’s Run by request.  Sunday, will be the SLRR’s Night Train run.  Looks like it’ll be passing by us on Pawpaw, so we’ll be gathering to watch while enjoying some of the activities on the hill.

Tuesday, 10/12 @ 7PM/8PM

At 7PM, we’ll start the evening with a 2005 reading by then U.S. poet laureate, Ted Kooser.
“…a poet and essayist, a Presidential Professor of English at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He served as the U. S. Poet Laureate from 2004-2006, and his book Delights & Shadows won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for poetry. His writing is known for its clarity, precision and accessibility.”
TedKooser.net

Then at 8PM, we’ll shift to a mix of individual performances in a variety of styles & voices.  Opening the show will be a series of artists from the Def Jam Poetry series, young voices speaking to a number of topics we face today.  From there we will have some of our modern day classics such as Charles Bukowski & (my favorite) Nikki Giovanni.  A few videos from a personal friend, who is a beautiful slam poet & transgender activist, will make their way in near the wrap up.

A writer & published poet myself, this is an evening which I look forward to sharing with you.  There is some amazing work being done in poetry today.
