Events 10/11-17

11 Oct

We’ve got some specialness planned this week:~)

On Tuesday we’ll be showing two hours of contemporary poets & on Thursday it’ll be Logan’s Run by request.  Sunday, will be the SLRR’s Night Train run.  Looks like it’ll be passing by us on Pawpaw, so we’ll be gathering to watch while enjoying some of the activities on the hill.

Tuesday, 10/12 @ 7PM/8PM

At 7PM, we’ll start the evening with a 2005 reading by then U.S. poet laureate, Ted Kooser.
“…a poet and essayist, a Presidential Professor of English at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He served as the U. S. Poet Laureate from 2004-2006, and his book Delights & Shadows won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for poetry. His writing is known for its clarity, precision and accessibility.”

Then at 8PM, we’ll shift to a mix of individual performances in a variety of styles & voices.  Opening the show will be a series of artists from the Def Jam Poetry series, young voices speaking to a number of topics we face today.  From there we will have some of our modern day classics such as Charles Bukowski & (my favorite) Nikki Giovanni.  A few videos from a personal friend, who is a beautiful slam poet & transgender activist, will make their way in near the wrap up.

A writer & published poet myself, this is an evening which I look forward to sharing with you.  There is some amazing work being done in poetry today.

Thurs, 10/14 @ 7PM

Logan’s Run (1976, Sci-Fi/Adventure)
An idyllic sci-fi future has one major drawback: life must end at 30.
Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Roscoe Lee Browne, Farrah Fawcett

Sun, 10/17 @ 10AM

SLRR‘s Night Train!  Come watch the parade of trains with us from Taco Hill!  We’ll be listening to music on the stream, dancing, chatting, fishing, & swimming.  (If you don’t have your own fishing rod don’t worry, we’ve got them here;~) )

It’s gonna be a fun time.  See you there!

SLRR Rail Jam 2010 Post Post

18 Aug

So, here is the post post I promised about Sunday’s SLRR Rail Jam.  The rubber banding of my trailer park & taco stand delayed it, but it has been rebuilt.  It gave me the perfect opportunity to make some changes I had been considering, but were impractical giving I had everything set up already.  But once everything was back in my inventory (& Cherry’s – sorry dear>_<), no more excuses!

Ok, now that I have out of the way, on to the Rail Jam!  I started out riding in a trolley with lander Bracula of Shilo Falls, Old West Town amusement park.

I made it as far as the first sim crossing…  I didn’t get pics of it, but I found myself stuck in the air, with no option but to teleport out.  So I teleported home, & by that time I wasn’t sure where the train was so I just stayed at the taco stand.  There were a few people there watching the trains, so it was nice.  I gave out tacos & beer.

After the last train passed, we went to Calleta to watch them pulling into the final station.  Hobo Town was the end of the line – & the roughest sim crossing.

There was a crash, worsened by the pile up behind it.  One train even blew up!  Of course my nosy ass was standing right there (munching a taco), so I was showered by metal & smoke.

It was my first train event & it was a lot of fun!  I had never been to hobo town, so getting to see that was a lot of fun, too.

To see the rest of my pics, see my web album.  If you see yourself or your train, place, etc, in any of my pics, please leave a comment, & so I can credit properly.  Also, if you’d like to have a copy of one of the pics, contact me with your email & I’ll send it to you.  I believe me pics in the album are set so no one can copy them.

Thanks for reading!

SLRR Rail Jam 2010

15 Aug

The Perfect Taco is located between two set of tracks on the Second Life Rail Road; one of the things I love about my spot.  Prior to moving here I had not heard of SLRR, but they are popular with many people.  Who knew SL had so many train enthusiasts?  So most of my drop-in traffic comes from people traveling the tracks.  (& it’s not just for trains – their is a Union Jack Mini Cooper that regularly passes by & beeps.)  Speaking of drop-in traffic, I’ll also take a moment to brag – if you do an inworld search for ‘tacos’ The Perfect Taco is at the top of the list:~)  Not sure how many people are looking for tacos in SL, but for those who are…

So my point with this post is, today at 11am SLT (pacific for you real world people) , the SLRR group will be hosting SLRR Rail Jam 2010.

For those interested, here is the info copied from their note card:

The SLRR Rail Groups ‘Rail Jam’ is a fun Rail event on August the 15th 2010 – 11:00 AM
Everyone can join it. Bring your train to Bagha Station

It will be a run from Bagha to Calleta station along the public main line of the SLRR.
–   If you want to join be on time to rez your train.
–   If you want to watch just pick a staition along the main line to do so

The Virtual Railway Consortium hopes you enjoy the event hosted by the fellow
SLRR Rail Group.

Comments, Questions or Remarks you can send to DOUGIE Flossberg of the
SLRR Rail Group.

If you want to ride, but do not have a train, just grab one of the free ones they have along the tracks.  I know they have them at each end of our land.  Or, if you show up in time, you might be able to hitch a ride!  If you would prefer to just watch, come watch at The Perfect Taco! We’ve got a perfect view being on a hill over the tracks (a tiny hill, more of a ledge really, but ledge sounds so dangerous).  We are also right across from the Pini Station.

& FREE TACOS & BEER! to all Rail Jammers!

If you’re watching, come by the taco stand for tacos & beer.  If you’re riding come by after, or IM me (Bianca Duncan) & I’ll drop them on you:~)  You know I’ve got the best tacos in SL!

Want your own ride, but something a little more pimp than the freebie train?  Here is what Xstreet has to offer.
